Awards / Assessment dates announced

Following on from their announcement at this year’s Congress Dinner, we are delighted to confirm the dates of this year’s 15 assessment visits.

With destinations including Italy, Sweden, Spain, Ireland and many places within the UK, Academicians and Young Urbanists are welcome to take part in this rewarding, shared learning experience.

More than just an opportunity to lend your expertise to one of our key activities, the visits are an inspirational way to pick up new ideas from a rich variety of places – find out what they are doing to make their place a success.

Join us on one or more of the visits to take a step back, think critically about how we overcome the challenges and opportunities facing all of our places, and take some important lessons away with you.

How to sign up to one or more of the visits
Academicians and Young Urbanists are welcome to join as many visits as they like. On some, particularly the European City visits, we put a cap on numbers to ensure that the hosts who have volunteered to show us around do not get overwhelmed. Please use the form below to submit your interest. Academicians and Young Urbanists need to cover their own expenses, including subsistence, travel and accommodation.

How many visits should you attend?
Where possible, we encourage you to attend all three visits in a category. We understand this is not always possible due to timing and expense, but we feel the visits are most rewarding when you are able to compare and contrast candidates across a category.

What the Council had in mind was a series of sketches that could be presented to the Academy as a memento of their visit; one that might persuade them to think kindly of Frome while they deliberated upon who should win this year’s prestigious Great Town Award.
