Young Urbanist: ‘Planning Under Emergency’ Map Launch Workshop (POSTPONED)

This event has been postponed due to the continued spread of the Coronavirus. We will be in touch directly with anyone who has signed up to attend. The decision was taken to reflect the Academy’s commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our community. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and we hope to reschedule for a later date.
Did you feel that January was warmer than usual? You were probably right. January 2020 was Earth’s hottest start to a year in over a century; in 141 years of record-keeping there has never been a warmer January.
With a visible growth in the frequency and intensity of climate-related risks, from the Australian wildfires to flooding in the North of England, there has been a groundswell in environmental concern and calls for action to address climate change. As a part of this growing momentum globally, the UK public sector has been swept by a wave of climate emergency motions and declarations, with more than half of all councils across the UK following suit. As a result, 287 of the UK’s 408 principal authorities (70%) have now declared climate emergencies.
The ‘Planning Under Emergency’ project has sought to create a practical bridge over this knowledge gap, identifying ‘best in class’ examples of climate interventions from a variety of local authorities across the UK.
In this workshop, the three Young Urbanists and Project Leaders will present their project output: an online interactive map of the UK, onto which the project that has set itself apart will be plotted. They will also talk through their journey of how they have gotten there.
Please come with any ideas, projects and initiatives of how we can improve the map.
Get registered and help your fellow Young Urbanists to develop further their project!
