Young Urbanist: Planning Under Emergency Webinar

June 17, 2020 @ 18:00 - 19:30 BST

That’s the thing that really keeps me up at night’. This pre-Covid19 quote is from the executive director of The Lancet Medical Journal, the world’s oldest and best-known general medical journals. If our attention has been focused on ‘Covid-19 – World’s Biggest Challenge Since World War II according to UN Secretary General’ over the last few months, it is worth mentioning that climate change is still our biggest challenge and also the largest public health threat of the century.

In this low carbon online event on Wednesday 17 June , our three Young Urbanists, Floriane Ortega, Charlie McNell and Hannah Yu-Pearson, would like to share the findings they have gathered on the Climate Emergency in the UK: who has done what and how they did it. The results will be displayed on Commonplace, a UK stakeholder engagement platform which is kindly hosting their work for the duration of the grant they received from the Youngs Urbanists to undertake the project.

18:00 – Presentation of the team findings

18:30 – Presentation on the adaptation action of Kent County Council, by Christine Wissink, Adaptation Programme Manager

18:40 – Presentation on the Powerering Park project in Hackney by Neil Jones, Project Manager at We Are Possible

18: 50 – Presentation by Toby Bennett of Commonplace

19:00 – Discussions on how Covid-19 can strengthen the case for action on climate change
