Urbanism Lunch Hour: Covid-19 streets and public realm projects in Hackney, London and Auckland, New Zealand
May 29, 2020 @ 13:00 - 14:00 BST
We’re calling on Academicians to volunteer to speak at one of our upcoming series of our online Urbanism Lunch Hours. These events are open to all Academicians and Young Urbanist members.
This lunchtime session will look at the topic of Covid-19 streets – how cities are adjusting their streets and public realm to physical distancing requirements and the opportunity this provides for permanent rebalancing of public space in favour of pedestrians and cyclists. The session will include contributions from two speakers.
Cllr. Jon Burke, Cabinet Member for Energy, Waste, Transport and Public Realm, Hackney Council.
With a background as a civil and structural engineer, parliamentary reporter, policy specialist, and research manager at the London Assembly, Jon first became a local Councillor in Hackney in May 2014. Joining Mayor Glanville’s first Cabinet in September 2016, Jon is the lead member for Energy, Waste, Transport, and Public Realm and, in addition, is responsible for responding to the climate change emergency, environmental sustainability, and strategic and local transport.
