Urbanism Awards Revisited Celebration

November 25 @ 15:00 17:20 GMT

This Autumn, the Academy has been hosting a series of weekly sessions of insightful presentations by past finalists of the Urbanism Awards. We reunited with representatives from cities, towns, neighbourhoods, streets, and places that the AoU has praised as exemplars of good urbanism and we’ve heard how these places are continuing to find inspiring ways to face the challenges of today.

What better way to draw the Urbanism Awards Revisited programme to a close than an afternoon of celebration and reflection? Joined by our lead assessors, we welcome back 15 Great Places across five awards categories to share their thoughts and ideas in an open discussion.

The 15 past finalists joining us will be:

CITIES: Aarhus (Denmark), Bilbao (Spain), Utrecht (The Netherlands)

TOWNS: Frome (England), Derry/Londonderry (Northern Ireland), Paisley (Scotland)

NEIGHBOURHOODS: Merchant City (Glasgow), Kelham Island (Sheffield), Grand Canal Quarter (Dublin)

STREETS: Argyle Street (Glasgow), Oliver Plunkett Street (Cork), Park Lane (Poynton)

PLACES: City Park (Bradford), Viking Triangle (Waterford), Peace and Winter Gardens (Sheffield)

The afternoon will also feature poetry by the Academy’s poet-in-residence Ian McMillan and a panel of Young Urbanists on the future of urbanism in a session called ‘People, Planet, Resilience’. Panellists include:

  • Sean Vincent Kelly, Senior Project Officer, Connecting Nature, Glasgow City Council
  • Floriane Ortega, Manager and Adaptation Lead, Cities and Regions, The Carbon Trust
  • Simeon Shtebunaev, Doctoral Researcher, Birmingham City University
  • Roxana Slavcheva, Global Lead, Connected Places Catapult
  • Chair: Dr Ombretta Romice, Senior Lecturer, Architecture, University of Strathclyde

We hope you will join us and bring along friends and colleagues to this learning exchange and celebration of the people and organisations that deliver and sustain great places.

This event will take place on Zoom and the link will be sent to registered attendees 24 hours ahead of the start time.
