This presentation will discuss the masterplanning process for two strategic mixed use developments in the same county but under different Local Authorities, each with different approaches. One is very involved and keen to see as much detail as possible. The other is more interested in the strategic frameworks. Both masterplans are being developed within the same timescales and both have just completed their first online public consultation. Both speakers are involved in both masterplans and both masterplans are for the same client – The County Council.
The joint presentation will cover the different approaches and their results as well as the complexity of balancing the various competing elements in a masterplan including land use, landscape, density, movement, character, placemaking and commercial reality.
Michael Calder RTPI, Director of Phase 2 Planning and Development, will focus on the policy and the consultation aspects of the masterplans.
Michael has experience in both the private and public sector. He began his professional career as a planner within Maldon District Council’s Development Control Department before moving to private practice and becoming a consultant at Strutt and Parker LLP in 2004 as a Planning Consultant. In 2005 he joined Andrew Martin Associates working his way up to Principal Planner. In 2009 Andrew Martin Associates were acquired by Capita Symonds and he worked within the Planning and Design team of a multi-disciplinary FTSE 100 company. He currently holds the position of Director at Phase 2 Planning Ltd having joined the firm in 2012.
Mette McLarney RIBA, Founder and Director of Bluepencil Designs, will focus on the design and production aspect of the masterplans.
