The future of work [AoU South East]
April 2, 2014 @ 18:30 - 20:30 BST£5.00
Work as we know it is changing, but what will it look like for future generations, and what will it mean for our society?
In the 21st century, the format of work is changing. The working age is lengthening and, with increasing technological developments, the UK workforce’s profile has fewer blue-collar workers and an increasing service sector workforce. There are more home-based start-ups and transfers of work from the public sector to the third sector. Indeed, perhaps voluntary work will become a more significant element in many people’s working life.
This debate, chaired by Jon Rowland AoU FRSA, features speakers representing social, cultural, HR and design perspectives on the world of work. They will present their views on the issues and options about work (and the workers) for the 21st century.
Contributors from the floor are likely to include both experts in the field of work and those that have already been affected by the changing workplace.
Discussion is likely to be heated – and will be particularly appropriate for Fellows concerned about how work and the working environment should develop, as well as those who wish to contribute their own solutions.
This is an RSA event in association with The Academy of Urbanism.
