November 1, 2016 @ 18:00 - 20:00 GMT

The Chelmsford Ideas Festival has several events under the umbrella of ‘Your City’ supported by The Academy of Urbanism.

Wanted – your ideas for improving natural capital for people

You are invited to a free evening question time and discussion on Tuesday 1 November. The theme is ‘Improving natural capital for people’.

The event takes place at the Northumberland Theatre at Writtle University College, Chelmsford, Lordship Road, Chelmsford CM1 3RR. It is from 6pm – 9pm.

The panel would include Dr Peter Hobson, Reader in Biodiversity Conservation & Sustainability; School Research Leader; Co-Director Centre for Econics & Ecosystem Management www.centreforeconics.org at Writtle University College. Local authority commissioner, Deborah Fox, is to chair the discussion.

We are hopeful there will also be a community-led exhibition to view on natural capital in Chelmsford. This is with thanks to Transition Chelmsford and the OpenNESS Project.

Running order subject to confirmation:
Brief pitch by each panellist
Question time
Closing comments.

The Natural Capital Committee says that natural capital is our ‘stock’ of waters, land, air, species, minerals and oceans. This stock underpins our economy by producing value for people, both directly and indirectly. Goods provided by natural capital include clean air and water, food, energy, wildlife, recreation and protection from hazards.

The term ‘natural capital’ is increasingly used to describe the parts of the natural environment that produce value to people. Natural capital underpins all other types of capital – manufactured, human and social – and is the foundation on which our economy, society and prosperity is built.
