Bradford Diagnostic Visit – 4-5 July 2019

Bradford City Centre Diagnostic Visit
Join Our Diagnostic Panel

4-5 July
Bradford, UK

Bradford city centre is facing a number of challenges and opportunities and is on the cusp of major change. On the northern side of the centre the traditional retail core is shrinking and moves are afoot to create a new ‘City Village’. To the south a large 100 hectare area, currently dubbed the ‘Southern Gateway’, has been identified as a major regeneration opportunity in response to the prospect of a future Northern Powerhouse Rail station in these environs.

This raises a number of questions. What should the role of the city centre be in the future? How will the Southern Gateway fit into this? What sort of place should it be? How do they best plan for this growth?

To kick start the debate Bradford Council has commissioned an Academy Diagnostic Visit. This will bring together people and organisations with an interest in the future of the city centre and Southern Gateway to share their various perspectives.

What we need
We are looking to appoint a panel of 4-5 Academicians to take part. This will include a group Chair who will lead discussions and act as our main representative during the visit, as well as a Rapporteur to write up the findings after the visit.

We are looking for Academicians with skills and experience in:

  • Planning, design and delivery of major regeneration projects
  • Masterplans and strategies, particularly regarding:
    • Housing development
    • City centre schemes
    • Transport infrastructure

Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered up to a reasonable sum. There is the opportunity to apply for a small honorarium to cover some of your time spent on the visit.
