Birmingham City Council is the local government body responsible for the governance of the City of Birmingham in England, which has been a metropolitan district since 1974. URBED (Urbanism, Environment and Design) specialises in urban design and sustainability in an urban context. They work across the UK from their bases in Manchester and London and for public and private sector clients. The background of the practice is in urban regeneration, however recent work has ranged from town centre strategies to outline planning applications for large commercial masterplans, from University estate strategies to urban design guidance.
