Dick Gleeson As Dublin City Planner Dick Gleeson sees his role as being pivotal in terms of making a critical contribution to the directions and future shape of the City of Dublin, particularly in the areas of generating vision, developing strategy and applying best practice. This involves working collaboratively with the energy of the City, its academic institutions, business community and investment sector. He has been central in developing and embedding a systems type approach to planning; inspired by an urbanist / holistic philosophy, and geared to achieve integration across the economic, social, cultural, environmental and urban spatial spectrum. He has championed the adoption of a “Sustainable Dublin Framework” in the Draft City Development Plan based on the principles and methodology of “The Natural Step”. Dick Gleeson has a major interest in public engagement and has been closely involved with “Designing Dublin” a recent three month project which paired volunteers from the City with members of various Departments of Dublin City Council. For the last year he has worked on “My City” an interactive exhibition on the Planning of the City and housed in the new “Wood Quay Venue” at Civic Offices, Dublin. He has been a member of several juries run by the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) including the competition for the Dublin Spire, and is also a member of the RIAI awards jury for 2010. He is a member of the Dublin Creative Alliance (DCA) and is also a board member of the Temple Bar Cultural Trust and the Grangegorman Development Agency. He chairs the UniverCities initiative in Dublin. | ![]() |
