CITY X-RAYS Leeds Hosted by:Leeds City Council Concourse MEPC As a finale to the 10x10x10 programme Improving Livelihoods through Understanding Place we are holding the final event in Leeds, on the 3-4 November 2010, hosted by Concourse, Leeds City Council and MEPC. In the year long period we will have had 10 hosts in 10 places and covered a broad range of themes. The final event in Leeds is spread over two days with the first day focused on “Understanding Leeds” in a workshop format with city walks to develop the 3 hour City X-Rays. The second day will be a round table format with an introduction by each of the 10 host places, and an opportunity to develop and review the concept of places that learn through a better understanding of themselves, so as to continuously improve. The symposium will be based at Renaissance Leeds City Room at MEPC’s Wellington Place, a major mixed use development, which though stalled by the current recession, has shown an imaginative approach to stimulating activity on the site through short term uses and events. The 10x10x10 programme over the last year has focused on questioning perceived wisdom and looking for alternative approaches. Our final event is an opportunity to share experiences and formulate an agenda for the Academy to help stimulate local initiatives and respond to the Government’s policy of localism and greater involvement of the third sector. Get involved Please come and join us for one or both days. The event will be free to attend but to keep the discussions interactive numbers are limited to 30, with the emphasis on ensuring a broad coverage of places, interests and expertise. If you are interested please could you respond to Stephen Gallagher (sg@academyofurbanism.org.uk) and say whether it will be one or both days. The hosts are providing the venue and refreshments. There will be a list of different priced hotels and participants will be expected to make there own arrangements. |
