Curator George Ferguson Beginning with an optional tour and film about the Tobacco factory, itself a local landmark, which kick-started a wave of neighbourhood regeneration and local identity. The focus of the evening will be a debate titled 'Local Identity if a thing of the Past', featuring key local Academicians who will argue whether identity is defined by history, or by actions we make today. Curator Trevor Davies and Riccardo Marini This event will bring Academicians and friends together to explore the challenges we face in enabling places to be more economically and socially resilient as places people and businesses want to be. In particular, we will consider the proactive role of positive urbanism in meeting these challenges in the current recessionary climate. April 13 Curator Jon Phipps Make Do and Mend' is an approach gathering momentum in a time where budgets have been reigned in. Nottingham Trent University will be presenting their very own make do and mend, while explaining how to make the most out of your city's existing fabric. March 25
Curator Dick Gleeson This event will focus on several key Dublin Stories, accounts of modest interverntions or projects that have been subversive system changers. The event will also run a workshop, where select questions will focus on how the Academy can help nurture initiatives in a time of economic downturn. In the afternoon, Localism: Reality or Rhetoric - Who cares? will bring together an exciting and highly-regarded panel of speakers to stimulate your thoughts and engage you in debate on the theme of localism and whether, and in what form, this much vaunted topic can either help or hinder the delivery of great places and vibrant communities.
