Workshop 3: Active Living – evolution vs revolution: changing lifestyles in deprived communities

Facilitators: Ben Percival, Sport and Leisure Manager, Leisure and Community Health, Walsall Council; Tim Challans, Director of Challans Consulting and cultural consultant

Synopsis: Walsall Council’s service review Active Living has seen a 50% increase in residents’ levels of physical activity from a borough that at one point had the accolade of “second best at physical inactivity”. A fundamental re-examination of customer need and motivation led to some thoroughly effective yet unoriginal solutions. Re-telling Walsall’s Active Living journey will share the process, lessons learned and a few potential short cuts!

This workshop will take place on the afternoon of the main Congress day – Friday 5 June 2015 – alongside other workshops. Book your ticket now to join us in Birmingham for our 10th Annual Congress, taking place over 4-6 June 2015.
